It started in1954. 1930 is when my dxx was born. My dxx fought in the war, lost his right arm below the elbow, and was sent to France to recover. He was depressed and his brother found a prosthetic professional in London where my dxx went to get fitted. He then had a successful career as an accountant in Paris. He had to work for free to show his worth to clients who disliked the idea of a “disabled” worker.
The documentary I watched is called “the battle of Algiers“. It won awards.
My mother’s family left Algeria in 1951 because her French neighbor’s baby was killed by its Algerian nanny. There was a lot of tension between colonisers and the local population.
That is what she told me. My dxx used to say Algiers had big avenues as beautiful as those in Paris.
